Position Summary

This team does the following for both Aultman Hospital and Aultman Orrville Hospital:

The clinical charge capture team is responsible for the review of all outpatient observation, and inpatient to calculate and capture all documented observation hours according to current CMS guidelines and all drug administration/infusion charges according to coding guidelines. This team also charges ER levels and procedures on admitted ER visits. (to either obv or inpatient) Also, manual charge posting for various ancillary departments. The team is responsible for obtaining optimal revenue while maintaining compliance with all regulations. The position requires knowledge of; charge capture and flow processes, charging information systems, coding and reimbursement regulations.

Primary Responsibilities & Requirements


Review all clinical documentation daily for observation, inpatient, ED admits, ED to CPC and ED to OBV cases
Identify and correct all registration errors regarding account status
Manual charge posting for ancillary departments
Post charges in MPAC and or Cerner systems
Assist manager with communication regarding clinical documentation in relation to charge capture.
Understand and maintain a current knowledge of all regulations regarding observation billing and reimbursement.
Maintain productivity and quality standards
Maintain attendance (including tardiness) in accordance with departmental standards
Complete safety evaluation, JCAHO Education, TB Testing, Confidentiality, Information Systems usage and HIPAA/Corporate Compliance notification on an annual basis
Exhibit accepted level of Teamwork and RESPECT
Accept change as needed to meet departmental goals
Prepare or assist with other projects/duties as assigned

Desired Job Qualifications/Skill Sets


Billing or coding experience in a physician office or outpatient hospital setting helpful
Experience in hospital reimbursement, revenue audits or charge capture helpful
Knowledge of current Medicare and other regulatory billing guidelines
Ability to manage multiple demands from a variety of constituents
Solid computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, internet, Medipac, MedAssets, Cerner)
Health information or nursing professional helpful
Pays close attention to detail and presentation
Effective communicator
CCS, CCSP or Coding Certificate helpful
