Job Title Assistant Women's Basketball Coach/Student Life & Recreation Assistant
Job Description
The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach/Student Life & Recreation Assistant will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of SCC’s NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Program including practices, games, travel, fundraising, and recruiting, and any other duties related to the basketball program. Responsible in assisting the Student Activities Director with the following: West Burlington Student Board, student club/organizations and student engagement activities. Responsible for assisting with the supervision of the Blackhawk Recreation Center, including assisting with intramurals, supervision of staff and communicating and enforcing facility behavioral, safety and security policies and procedures.

This is a full-time position (261 work days) with a starting salary of $36,000 per year. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid discretionary time and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

Terms of employment are per the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

This position will uphold college policies and procedures and support and participate in college-wide initiatives. The incumbent will actively promote a positive image for the college district and support SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.
Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy, related Iowa Code, and the ICCAC & NJCAA policies and procedures.
  • Embrace and support constructive change; work efficiently and effectively to assist with student engagement activities at the West Burlington campus, Blackhawks Recreation Center, the Women’s Basketball program and all related college operations.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of student-athlete academic progress.

  • Assist head coach in:
  1. Planning and implementation of daily practice and game situations.
  2. Practices, games, recruitment, fundraising, and monitoring of student-athletes (academic, eligibility, and behavior).
  3. Individual instruction and skill improvement throughout the year.
  4. Evaluation of prospective student-athletes.
  5. Internal and community relations and any activities to enhance the overall image of the women’s basketball program
  6. Maintaining discipline and enforcing and encouraging acceptable behavior as expected through SCC’s conduct and academic guidelines
  • Develop and facilitate recruiting materials and mailings for prospective student-athletes
  • Assist the Student Activities Director with all Blackhawks Recreation Center facility operations
  • Assist the Director of Student Activities with areas of Student Life as needed
  • Assist Student Activities Director with Development, organize, promote and facilitate various campus-wide activities/events through the Student Board
  • Assist the Student Activities Director to organize and facilitate various intramural opportunities for West Burlington campus students/staff
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Associate’s Degree required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Experience in:
  1. Coaching high school or college basketball required; preference given to college level coaching experience.
  2. Student life and/or student activities preferred.
  3. Prior experience at a community college with specific experience in recreation preferred.
  • ·Self-motivated, dependable, energetic and creative individual with leadership, planning, fund-raising, and public relations skills.
  • Strong human relations and interpersonal oral & written communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications specifically Microsoft Office programs; ability to learn and develop competency in SCC’s administrative software (Ellucian).

  • Ability to:
  1. Work effectively with students, colleagues, and community, and to assist the athletic and student affairs departments in general
  2. Handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
  3. Comprehend and abide by NJCAA, ICCAC, and SCC policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  4. Learn how to use and upload game film and stats.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands
The Assistant Coach/Student Activities/Recreation Assistant must have the ability and mobility to serve a rural service area; travel required. Must be able to work on a basis of “available as work demands” in addition to a fixed schedule.
