Summary Statement

Assists swim team head coach with summer recreation swim teams. This position is temporary work during the summer season only, located at one of Boise Parks and Recreation's outdoor facilities. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.

Essential Functions

Coaches individual swimmers on various styles and racing techniques. Makes recommendations to swim team head coach for swimmers' needs, meet entries, or other duties. Attends all swim meets including Championship meet. 

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Level of Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of competitive swimming skills and techniques.
Abilities:
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends;
  •  interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; 
  • display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public, and other organizations; 
  • communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; 
  • complete assignments in a timely fashion; 
  • understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations; 
  • maintain prompt and regular attendance; 
  • perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • One year of experience coaching a swim program
  • Current Lifeguard Certification.
  • American Red Cross First Aid & CPR Certification.

Applicants must be able to pass:

Physical Efforts
The noise level is frequently moderate. Work includes the sensory ability to talk, hear, and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will stand, walk, reach, and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases, or other airborne matter. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
This position works: Must work evenings and weekends.

19-Hour Temporary
All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
 
4-Month Temporary
All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
 
8-Month Seasonal
In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
 
9-Month Temporary
In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
