Position Summary and Duties
The Maintenance Technician position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00 pm, with a lunch break.  This position works directly with other Maintenance Technicians and Carpenters on campus reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.  They will perform general maintenance and a variety of repairs to structural components of buildings.

Job duties include:
1. Conduct inspections of structural components of buildings, including but not limited to roofs, doors, walls, windows, ceilings and floors. Conduct seasonal inspection of resident rooms in order to identify and correct deficiencies. Respond to repair requests, troubleshoot problems and make necessary repairs. Perform repairs to interior and exterior walls, ceilings, floors and other building surfaces.

2. Assist with renovations and remodeling work as needed using hand and power tools. Install drywall; paint preparation, and paint as required. Fit, install, and maintain door and window hardware.

3. Operate, maintain and ensure adequate supplies, tools, power tools, materials and equipment of the trade or area where assigned. Prepare requisitions and obtain materials needed to complete assigned projects. Ensure cost effective use of materials allocated. Ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained in assigned areas. Conduct routine inspections and perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools. Ensure operational readiness and safety of work areas, tools, power tools and equipment. Clean work area upon completion of assignment.

4. Assist with snow plowing and snow/ice removal campus-wide as required and directed.

5. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

This is an essential personnel position and the ability to respond to emergencies is required.  The position will rotate through on-call duties to provide after hour coverage. 
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Must be able to pass the University driver’s clearance training.
- Must be able to drive a University vehicle.
- Ability to perform repairs to structural components of buildings including dry walling and painting.
- Must have the ability to use power tools.
- Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolding.
- Must be able to rotate through on-call duties, covering evenings and weekends following the on-call procedures and guidelines.
- Must have some flexibility to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required.
- Must have the ability to support the mission and values of a Catholic Jesuit education, as well as University goals for institutional diversity and inclusion.

Physical/Environmental Demands:
Work involves the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined space, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20 50 pounds) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items. The work environment involves exposure to various elements such as chemicals, dust, fumes, cold, heat, noise, vibrations, or dampness, where work exposes the employee to potentially non-disabling injuries. Duties require that work be performed in adverse weather conditions. Work may require exposure to dangerous equipment and machinery . Work usually requires use of protective clothing or gear such as earplugs, hard hats, mask, gloves, insulated clothing, boots, coats, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Carpentry, vocational, or technical training preferred.
