The AmeriCorps member will engage in delivering high-impact educational programming primarily to K-12 students, with a particular focus on providing equitable access to culturally relevant history education. This role supports History Colorado's mission by facilitating Hands-On History programming, field trips, and other educational activities. The AmeriCorps member may also engage in coordinating and facilitating community events, adult educational programming, and community outreach efforts.

Description of Job

About the Program

  • The AmeriCorps member will serve for an average of 25 hours per week for 2 months, for a minimum of 300 hours over the course of their service term.

  • The member will serve at Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center. 

  • Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly.

  • Service term begins May 19, 2025 and ends August 8, 2025.

  • Mandatory in-person orientation on May 19th (location to be determined). 

What You’ll Do
  • Facilitate Hands-On History programming, field trips, classroom visits, and other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.

  • Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.

  • Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiatives projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.

  • Experience in educational programming, museum education, or working with K-12 students preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident, due to AmeriCorps rules and regulations.

  • Ability to pass criminal history checks required.

  • Patience is required, as you will be in a position that largely serves children.

  • Background in history, education, cultural studies, or a related discipline preferred.

  • Familiarity with Colorado's diverse historical and cultural landscapes preferred.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

  • Flexibility to work weekends and special events as needed.

  • May require lifting heavy objects and working on ladders.

  • May require periodic travel by car, van, and truck to locations throughout the state, typically for periods of less than one week in duration.
