Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, Adult Career Center
Job Type: Part-time Adult Education
Position Type: Aspire Teacher - ESOL; Adult Education Teaching Pay: $25 Per Hour
Expected hours: 8-10 Hours per week; Must be available to work during weekdays including evenings. Class schedule may change throughout the year based on student / community need
Location: Mahoning County; Columbiana County
Date Available: As Soon As Possible

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated instructor to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center Aspire program offers free classes at flexible locations and times to meet the diverse needs of adult learners. The ESOL instructor is responsible for preparing lesson plans and instructing Aspire ESOL students following the program/course goals and objectives that are supportive of the department's mission to serve its customers. Responsibilities include monitoring, collecting, and evaluating student performance and progress toward program/course goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Instruct students in the use of technology that is supportive of the program/course goals
  • Assume responsibility for student retention and progress
  • Prepare ESOL students to be able to communicate with employers, teachers and the community
  • Assist in curriculum planning, development, selection and utilization of instructional materials
  • Participate in program in-service education and staff training
  • Employ appropriate procedures in establishing a proper classroom environment
  • Increase awareness of other available adult and community education programs
  • Monitor classroom compliance with Federal and State program regulations
  • Provide classroom or individual instruction based on student needs (diagnostic testing and learning screenings) and student goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience in Adult and Community Education (Preferred)
  • Ohio Department of Education - Hold a valid Teacher License, Substitute License or Adult Education Permit.
  • ESOL Credential or related.
  • Must be able to pass BCI/FBI background checks and drug screen
