Wenger Corporation is seeking a Production Cell Lead to serve as working leader in our Metal Fabrication Department(s). In this position, you'd be responsible for work assignments that support a safe and effective lean operation conforming to standardized work procedures, identifying improvement opportunities, training associates, and working with associates and management to solve operational workflow problems. Machine set-up and equipment operation required, along with troubleshooting, small repairs, and some maintenance of equipment.
At a minimum, you'll need:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Mechanical ability and aptitude
Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, or equivalent
It'd be great if you also have:
Team Leadership or supervisory experience
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Ability to evaluate department goals and results being achieved
Ability to understand and perform critical inventory control functions
Previous forklift experience or the ability to obtain a forklift license
What you will do on a typical day:
Support productivity objectives.
Maintain time and attendance records by updating payroll system and approving PTO.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area by leveraging 5S tools.
Effectively communicate with managers, engineers, technicians, and business by updating and presenting the Gemba boards and other methods.
Periodically review employees work and assess conformity to standard work and quality procedures. This may include sign off on critical quality criteria.
Communicate and train associates on proper use of equipment and safety policies and ensure proper PPE (personal protective equipment) is available for each employee.
Provide performance feedback to team member and keep area manager advised of team member performance
Resolve schedule problems throughout the day by closely coordinating with necessary departments and assist Production Manager in planning OT hours
Assign work to team members and prioritizing the workload and equipment schedule to meet both internal and external customer demand.
Maintain accurate inventory levels with diligent execution of inventory control processes
Participate in or lead continuous improvement efforts in support of lean processes and problem solving
Ensure appropriate controls and visual management tools are in place and up to date
Responsible for order management. Provides information to appropriate personnel, including the area manager, regarding needed changes and adjustments.
Recognize points of failure in the flow of production and drive to implement countermeasures, escalate or recommend solutions
Assist Production Manager in the training of new associates.
Use scheduling techniques to achieve increased flexibility, floor space and turnaround time by reducing work-in-process inventory and overall lead times.
Cross-train others as needed to ensure back-ups are available and ready when needed.
Fill in as needed for any absence in the area.
Perform machine set-up and operation of equipment.
Troubleshoot, perform small repairs and some maintenance of machines and processes.
