Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

  • The primary responsibility of the Hospital Outpatient Coder III position will be to work through the extreme complex coding and charging structure for interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, and other high risk outpatient coding encounters to ensure the highest level of code accuracy based on physician documentation.
  • Uses clinical coding expertise based on the Official Coding Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic, and the Society of Interventional Radiology to assign ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Works closely with charging staff, physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialist, quality, and patient finance staff.
  • Plays a key role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Follows-up on CCI edits, claim rejections, CDM and other issues impacting the quality and facilitation of billing and reimbursement.
  • The incumbent will also ensure accuracy of APCs, CPT code links for IR procedures, and appropriate extraction of core data into HIM abstracting system to data warehouse repository.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalentpreferred.
  • Three years of interventional cardiology and interventional radiology coding.
  • CIRCC preferred or CPC, CPC-H, CCA, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P certified.
  • Must complete coding proficiency evaluation.
  • Anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical pharmacology, basic PC skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (MediumMax 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

Additional Details

Salary: $18.27- $37.14/hour

 

The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of each level, relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. This position is eligible for shift differentials.
