Responsible for monitoring boiler and boiler functions in a complex, high-tech boiler plant. Maintains logs/records and performs safety checks on all devices.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Senior Stationary Engineer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Operate engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Read gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations.
  • Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels. Activate valves to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in boilers.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.
  • Check safety devices routinely. Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity.
  • Supports the overall maintenance of patient rooms and the interior/exterior of the work environment which may include changing bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets etc., plumbing of toilets and sinks, nurse call repairs, repairs holes in walls, painting, changing ceiling tiles and moving furniture.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Advanced knowledge of boilers, gauges and valves.
  • 3-5 years general maintenance experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 

  • Previous Boiler Operator experience in a healthcare environment.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Blue Seal or Red Seal or Gold Seal (If incumbent has a Red Seal or a Gold Seal, a Blue Seal is not required.)
  • At RMC we can hire individuals with a White Seal or Black Seal or Red Seal or Gold Seal.
  • At SOMC and BMC, we must hire people with a Black Seal or Blue Seal or Red Seal or Gold Seal.
  • At OUMC and JSUMC, we must hire people with a Blue Seal or Red Seal or Gold Seal.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Red Seal Operating Engineer License or Gold Seal Operating Engineer License.
