SUMMARY

The Engineering Director will lead a multi-faceted team with expertise in mechanical and electrical design, embedded software, control systems, and human-machine interfaces. He or she will provide technical input for new product development, including system architecture, and technical roadmap decisions. The Engineering Director will be expected to work directly with the cross-functional executive team on a regular basis to provide input to critical strategic initiatives and provide updates on product development progress. 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead R&D team to deliver critical new products
  • Provide technical leadership for the team for technical issues, design reviews, and complex problem resolution
  • Own product system architecture and technology direction in collaboration with the broader team
  • Maintain and ensure adherence to Vapotherm’s Product Realization Process
  • Recruit and hire exceptional talent to build on the existing engineering team as needed to deliver on product initiatives
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Marketing, and Sales to develop long term technical roadmap
  • Manage Intellectual Property
  • Spend time with customers/end-users and constantly invest in understanding customer environment.
  • Participate in project feasibility studies.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Core Team members and provide significant feedback to functional leaders regarding training needs.
  • Ensure that project team members apply good engineering practices throughout the project.
  • Provide technical expertise and direction during supplier development activities
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience in a Product Development environment dealing with complex electromechanical systems
  • Experience in Medical Device development under FDA Regulations and MDR preferable
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing projects and/or teams to deliver advanced products to market
  • Experience developing products in a structured development process (stage gate or similar)
  • Willing and able to delegate or get hands dirty as dictated by the situation
  • Comfortable presenting to, working with, and influencing Executive Management team
  • Can work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines while maintaining a collaborative and professional demeanor
