Job Summary

Responsible for the proper preventive, and corrective maintenance of complex mechanical systems that can directly affect the safety and operation of a 42MW cogeneration power plant.  Will perform a variety of assignments requiring a high degree of knowledge in the mechanical field.           

Essential Functions

  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Must be able to perform a combination of welding, brazing, and thermal / arc cutting activities.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on all plant machinery and systems. 
  • Must be willing to respond to emergency call in and work overtime when necessary. 
  • On-Call and/or standby status is required, this includes Holidays, weekends, and nightshift as required.
  • Use precision tools in a proficient manner i.e., calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc. 
  • Perform basic alignments on pumps and motors.
  • Maintain and repair pumps, valves, piping systems, fans, gearboxes, conveyor systems, and all auxiliary equipment associated with a coal-fired power plant.
  • Perform equipment installations, modifications, adjustments, and repairs as needed, maintaining facility equipment at the highest possible standard maximizing availability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Acts as a team member with all company employees and complies with all Company policies and procedures.           
  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning as necessary to maintain the facility in a clean and neat condition.

Requirements / Essential Physical Abilities

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to respond to plant emergencies.
  • Ability to perform work at heights (up to 200 ft).
  • Must have eyesight corrected to 20/40
  • Ability to pass a respirator physical and fit test.
  • Ability to make significant independent judgements.
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
  • Ability to use personal computer, email, MS Office, calculator, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Education /Experience

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of plant mechanic experience or equivalent.           

Working Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • This job involves a working environment of 50% outdoors and 50% indoors.
