Required Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent level of education, two years associate science degree in clinical laboratory science, laboratory training culminating in National Certification, MLT (ASCP or equivalent) required, proficient and professional communication, both verbal and written.  Willingness to be BLS certified within the first year of employment. Ability to operate all lab equipment. Ability to do repetitive motions moving hand, wrist and fingers and fingertip touch perception for location of blood vessels.  Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.  Must be able to attend the work site per schedule and to take call on a rotational basis.  Duties may require limited amount of non-scheduled hours as work load requires.  Duties may require change of shift to accommodate work load and/or labor shortage.  Adequate computer/keyboarding skills.   Works in clean, well-lighted, ventilated department. May be exposed to uncooperative and/or irrational patients and patients with communicable diseases. May be exposed to artificially produced ionizing radiation, toxic chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and minimal carcinogenic hazards.

Job Description:
The employee performs a wide range of clearly defined analysis at acceptable levels of competency and on a timely basis.  These analyses involve a level of independent judgment as delegated by the supervisor compatible with the level of acquired expertise.  The employee performs routine laboratory procedures carefully and conscientiously using predetermined criteria and reports unusual conditions to the supervisor.  Proficient and professional communications is required with patients, co-workers and physicians.  Performs efficiently and accurately when assisting or carrying out physician orders, including appropriate documentation.  Be knowledgeable of resources available within the clinic and throughout the community to provide optimum medical care to patients and their families.
