Integrated Effects Test Lead
TerraPower, LLC. Is seeking a highly motivated professional with a senior-level project engineering background. In this role, you will report to the Senior Vice President of Innovation Programs and act as cognizant engineer for the Integrated Effects Test (IET), including overall responsibility for the design, construction, commissioning and operations for the test. The IET will be operated around the clock with multiple shifts. This effort supports the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program, and IET data will support licensing of a future demonstration reactor. You will lead a team operators, scientists and engineers to generate this data. Candidates must have extensive experience in thermal hydraulics, fluid mechanics, mechanical engineering, and a demonstrated ability to design and deliver experimental test platforms and report data according to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities:
* Act as Subject Matter Expert and Principal Investigator for Integrated Effects Test (IET)
* Lead a multi-disciplinary team to operate and maintain the IET facility
* Refine and execute an IET test program that satisfies provides data needed for follow-on reactor development and licensing
* Coordinate input and requirements from program management, engineering, and analysis teams to produce experimental design solutions
* Deliver technical and programmatic reports to TerraPower management, research partners and sponsors
* Provide planning and schedule input for IET operations and maintenance
* Lead and integrate experimental, analysis and design work of other engineers, scientists and subject matter experts
* Present experimental and analysis results at reviews and investor meetings
* Oversee design, procurement and operations for upcoming facility upgrades
* Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities
* Partner effectively with internal partners such as Contracts, Procurement and other internal groups to meet project objectives.
* Interface with subcontractors, providing direction and assimilating their work
Key Qualifications and Skills
* Minimum education: High school diploma or GED is required
* Minimum of 2 years of experience with large, molten salt systems
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in industrial plant operations (chemical, boiler, refinery, etc.)
* Military service may substitute for industrial plant experience
* Knowledge within the fields of thermal hydraulics, fluid mechanics, pilot plant design, or equivalent
* Knowledge of operation and maintenance of pumps, electric motors, and motor controls, piping devices, hydraulic control systems, and other mechanical equipment.
* Understanding of electrical hazards and safety.
* Experience in fluid flow systems, heat transfer, heat exchangers, and thermal systems design and experimentation
* Ability to lead a diverse team of engineers and scientists to conduct experimental activities and achieve results
* Demonstrated ability to deliver experimental results within a quality control framework and meet regulatory requirements (i.e. generating data of quality level for NRC and DOE application packages)
* Experience in fluid flow systems, heat transfer, heat exchangers, and thermal systems design and experimentation
* Experience with large-scale experimental system including large numbers of measurement inputs and many different simultaneous measurements
* Experience in delivering plans and reports to management and external collaborators and sponsors
* Experience in developing experimental data for validation of simulations
* Experience with high temperature pumping systems is a plus
* Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives
* Demonstrated strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker
* Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
* Excellent writing and communication skills
* Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
* Nuclear design experience preferred but not required

Salary Range Level 12: $163,702 - $226,844
