Experience and documented history in the effective identification of construction insurance risks; Workers Compensation, General Liability, Automobile, Property/Builders Risk, Environmental and/or contractor/owner-controlled insurance programs. The ability to identify leadership, financial, and process issues related to the risks. Design, inspire, and facilitate sustainable and measurable risk reduction strategies with contractors of all sizes. Considered an expert. Teaches and mentors others and is a role model.
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on professional experience in the support and participation of organizational loss control practices (construction) and be versed in strategic principals, program management, human resources, workforce behavior and work environments.
Experience in a key risk control position with a large nationally recognized commercial Insurance carrier/broker with significant exposure to large and mid-sized contractors or significant experience with a contractor(s) in positions of risk/safety management leadership and influence.

The Role
- Provide construction insurance risk control consultative services to general contractors, subcontractors, owners, and developers. Facilitate collaborative risk identification and sustainable risk mitigation with executive/senior management, risk managers, safety directors, project managers, quality managers, and human resource professionals.
- Analyze and stay on top of emerging construction industry and client loss trends to advise clients of mitigation even when established mitigation protocols have not yet been developed by client or industry experts.
- Assist other WTW colleagues in understanding industry, client data, client risk exposure, and industry risk exposure to assess potential coverage and risk control gaps for construction clients.
- Coordinate and manage carrier underwriting loss control surveys by coordinating the pre-visit agenda and needed documentation. Represent the client’s best interest during the actual on-site survey and assist the client with responding to any recommendations.
- Communicate verbally and in writing to construction insurance underwriters the client risks, senior leadership participation, and risk control progress being made to reduce loss and loss potential.
- Develop the Risk Control sections for new business RFP’s and for renewal presentations. Communicate accurately and succinctly in writing and verbally during sales/renewal presentations.
- Conduct field/site construction risk assessments on client projects and physical operational facilities.
- Prepare and deliver expert training programs to executive management, management, supervisors, and employees.
- Prepare stewardship reports that document services provided according to Client and Client management team expectations.
- Research risk control related information as necessary to educate clients, address client issues. Provide expert analysis for client when sharing outside reports and studies.
- Prepare safety materials, including sample policies, manuals, handbooks, and other reference items.
- Provide expert advice about compliance issues with safety-health-environmental on actual and proposed Federal and State laws, codes, regulations, and standards.
- Provide guidance to ensure emergency response plan and crisis communication plan are current and effectively implemented.
- Provide guidance to ensure project security and civil commotion response plan is current and effectively implemented.
- Provide advice and provide best thinking on assessment programs to evaluate trade contractor partners’ performance.
- Represent WTW at client and insurance carrier meetings and with other construction organizations such as AGC, ABC, CFMA, CPWR, NCCER, and others.
The Requirements
- Naturally Curious and a track record of solving problems (People and Engineering)
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience
- Proven results supporting and assisting a sales and marketing organization.
- Passionate and excited about Safety and Risk Control
- Working knowledge of construction building processes, execution, and terminology.
- Extensive Knowledge and expert advice on regulatory compliance regarding state and federal occupational safety and health standards – OSHA construction, Cal-OSHA, DOT, state and federal EPA, ANSI, SME, NCCO, and others
- Able to problem-solve within OH&S legislation.
- Knowledge of contract, employment, and civil law and how they interact with OH&S law.
- Ability to communicate region issues, trends, and objectives to region, and national executive WTW management.
- Conflict resolution, with the ability to manage and effectively resolve conflict with clients internal WTW colleagues and the ability to influence others towards resolution in high pressure short turnaround situations.
- Skills in the anticipation, identification and evaluation of hazardous conditions and practices in various construction project environments
- Demonstrative measurement, audit and evaluation skills in risk analysis, cost, and cost benefit analysis, work sampling, loss rate, etc…for periodic and systematic trending and evaluation of hazard control programs of construction clients.
- Excellent verbal, written, active listening, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to and influence change in groups of individuals, from senior management to front-line employees.
- Ability to prepare and review both individual insurance losses and historical loss trends. Must have the ability to draw solid conclusions from seemingly unrelated factors that will motivate and inspire clients to change work plan processes and behavior.
- Work, support and collaborate with other national WTW risk control professionals.
- Directs resources and activities to support Regional, National, and Global initiatives. This includes providing mentoring, coaching, career management, professional development, and performance management responsibilities.
- 50% or greater as needed for client strategic planning and monitoring, stewardship conferencing, field or operational project risk assessments, and crisis management response advocacy.
- Able to fly using commercial aircraft. Experience with the constant rigors and demands of business travel by air, rail, rental car, personal vehicle, or watercraft.
- Must be able to deal with constant travel itinerary scheduling, client changes and cancellations specific to hotel and transportation or possible remote temporary short stays in rural areas.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others in English
- Mobility sufficient to conduct client visits, including at job sites offering little access, at elevated heights.
- Ability to climb stairs, scaffold stair systems, ladders.
