Job Description
Syracuse University invites applications for Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor in Sport Management to begin in the Fall 2024 semester. An extensive professional background and/or teaching and research expertise in the areas of sports communications, social media, media relations, public relations, and community relations in sports; or management and technology, managing diversity, sport marketing, or facility and event management is desirable. The Department of Sport Management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, offers a B.S. degree in Sport Management, B.S. in Sport Analytics, B.S. in eSports Communications and Management, M.S. in Sport Venue and Event Management, a CAS in Sport Analytics, and an online M.S. in Sport Analytics.
Qualifications
  • An earned graduate degree in sport management, communications, marketing, business or a related field is required. 
  • A record of extensive sport communications and media experience, with a minimum of 5 years of employment in sports industry; and/or a demonstrated level of teaching competence and ability to teach multiple sport management courses, is required. 
  • Teaching expertise should focus on sports communications, social media, media relations, public relations, and community relations in sports; or management and technology, managing diversity, sport marketing, or facility and event management.
  • Appointment to faculty rank is open based on appropriate level of scholarship, teaching and industry experience. 
  • The overriding requirement for faculty appointment, reappointment and promotion must be distinguished performance.

Responsibilities
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate instruction in the Department of Sport Management, on a teaching load of 4 courses per semester. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is expected to provide academic mentoring to students, do substantial service on SPM and College Committees and with professional organizations, and effectively handle other responsibilities associated with being a faculty member. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with other academic units and departments across the academic community and with sport industry practitioners.
