QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Trade school graduate or 12th grade education with courses in blueprint reading, Mechanical/Plumbing/HVAC drawing, and mathematics
• Minimum of four years’ experience in comparable work is required.
• General Knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Basic General Maintenance
• Must be able to adapt to a variety of changing duties as required to support all departments in the hospital and offsite facilities.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
• Must provide and maintain common hand tools needed for the execution of duties. Job specific power tools will be provided.
• Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies
Basic knowledge in the following:
• Use of hand tools and common power tools related to maintenance.
• Repair of mechanical devices and parts as related to Plumbing/Boiler systems.
• Basic carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing and electrical work.
• Welding and soldering techniques.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Must be able to rapidly respond to emergency situations anywhere within the facility using stairways, ladders to roof accesses etc.
• Must be physically agile and can climb, stoop, kneel or crouch to gain access to piping and equipment in need of repair.
• Must be able to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• May provide support for Plant and Building Maintenance and repair on weekends, holidays, personnel on vacations and sick leave as required.
• May be required to work overtime to support facility maintenance and repair.
• May be assigned to perform 2nd and or 3rd shift work.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
• Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work with limited supervision.
• Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other associates, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
• Observes safety practices when operating equipment in compliance with established procedures.
COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT/SKILLS CHECKLIST:
• Ability to identify emergency shut offs for the critical equipment.
• Ability to operate valves, electrical disconnecting devices and other disconnecting devices.
• Responds to calls for emergency repairs (STAT calls); completes repairs and documents services rendered.
• Aware of section responsibilities regarding events of fire, disaster, and/or code calls of related nature. Observe shop safety practices when operating shop equipment in compliance with Hospital, Local, State, and Federal safety codes.
• Fulfills in-service education requirements as related to safety and other subjects as defined by the organizations and department's policies and procedures.
• Inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation and working conditions. Maintains routine records and determines type and extent of malfunction of equipment and, as necessary, adjusts, disassembles, and repairs or replaces parts or components, reassembles and tests for proper operation. Reports more serious problems to supervisory personnel for instructions or maintenance schedule.
• Perform a variety of skilled maintenance, alteration and repairs to machinery, equipment, or facilities as assigned or in accordance to basic skills and abilities, standard procedures, diagrams, or manufacturer’s instructions.
• Must have sufficient knowledge to perform general HVAC maintenance, associated with air handle, package, dx, convectors fan coils, pumps cooling towers.
• Performs and documents equipment repair, and tests new and repaired equipment before it is put into service.
• Fully responsible for the proper operation, cleaning, and lubrication of tools assigned.
• Repairs piping of various size and type.
• Checks safety equipment and replaces components such as washers, gaskets, and filters.
• Inspects, repairs, or replaces pumps, valves and boiler systems.
• Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies
• Perform other related duties as required.
