General Information & Responsibilities


 
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Assistant Coaches are responsible for assisting in recruiting, coaching, overseeing practices and games, and any other duties that may be required of a coach or assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.
 

Description of Duties

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 

  1. Fulfill head coaching in the absence of the Head Coach.
  2. Assist in researching and recruiting prospective student-athletes for the athletic program.
  3. Assist Head Coach in instructing all members of the team of all policies, procedures, and training rules applicable to the team.
  4. Assist in oversight of compliance of all policies, procedures, and training rules applicable to the team.
  5. Assume responsibility for the conduct of the student-athletes and other involved students at all times.
  6. Work with the Head Coach in planning, scheduling, and developing a season schedule.
  7. Assume the responsibilities for the development of a competitive athletic program within the entire program.
  8. Drives/transports team members to away events; maintains driver license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  9. Instruct the student-athletes on the fundamentals, proper training methods, strategies, safety precautions, and health measures pertaining to the sport.
  10. Assist in conducting and attending regularly scheduled practices and games.
  11. Assist with the recording and tabulating of game statistics.
  12. Assists in Managing expenditures allotted for meals, lodging, entry fees or any other necessary expenses.
  13. Assist in fundraising efforts.
  14. Work with the Head Coach in researching and selecting equipment and supplies for the sport.
  15. Responsible for the recording, tabulating and reporting of game and season statistics with Black Hawk College, Region IV, and NJCAA website.
  16. Responsible for public relations (newspaper, television, and other local and national media).
  17. In the absence of the Head Coach, attend and participate as decision-maker in all meetings required by the Region IV, Arrowhead Conference and/or the Athletic Director.
  18. Assists in the planning of the Regional or District Tournament when the Quad City campus is hosting the event.
  19. Assist and participate in the budget administration of the athletic program.
  20. Monitor the academic progress of each student-athlete in this course and in other courses in conjunction with the Head Coach.
  21. Assist in teaching the student-athletes the concepts of time management and appropriate balancing of coursework schedules.
  22. Develop and teach the student-athletes the concepts of teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, courtesy, fair play, academic excellence, and strict adherence to rules of training and conduct.
  23. Responsible for planning and conducting award activities.
  24. Responsible for submitting Annual Report to the Director of Athletics including season records, individual statistics, athletic award winners, goals for the next season and his/her inventory of equipment.
  25. Maintains a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
 
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES
 
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by Head Coach or by Athletic Director.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
 
  1. Works directly with the Head Coach, Director of Athletics, and Office Assistant.
  2. Works directly with the Athletic Department Staff.
  3. Works indirectly with the BHC Faculty and Staff.
 
 

Education & Experience

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
 

  1. High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree or two (2) years equivalent to 60 credit hours preferred.
  2. Collegiate experience as an athlete preferred.
  3. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Valid driver's license required with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
