Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
The Electrical Test engineering team has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Flight Test Engineer in Poway, CA. The department designs automated test platforms for remotely piloted air vehicles, ground support equipment, and engines as well as real time data acquisition platforms for flight and ground testing. Typical developments involve designing unique hardware and software to adapt and control avionics and engines to test equipment, and/or data acquisition systems. Automated developers are responsible for programs from the initial design planning through productionization and sustainment.
GA-ASI’s product line offers a wide variety of platforms for automated designers to work on from power systems to video and datalink applications.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and/or specification of flight test systems, cables, equipment, and software to facilitate testing of unmanned air vehicles.
- Support the installation, test, and sustainment of flight test hardware and software at multiple locations and facilities.
- Responsible for system level troubleshooting guides and fault isolation diagrams for AV and ground support systems.
- Work with subject matter experts on the proper selection and location of flight test instrumentation with extensive work on the integration of flight test hardware into unmanned air vehicles.
- Obtain, analyze, and build displays for flight test data. Extract and upload data to secure network locations.
- May be required to make brief technical presentations.
- May provide direction to design and/or technical staff.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Experience with data acquisition software such as TTC Ware, IADS, DAS Studio, or KSM
- Working experience with bus communication protocols and standards such as 1553, PCM, ARINC, CAN Bus and Ethernet.
- Working experience with LabVIEW ATE, LabWindows/CVI, Embedded Systems.
- Working experience with E3 Zuken or other system integration tools.
- Experience with Real Time Operating Systems, Data Acquisition Units, and Real Time Telemetry.
- Must have an understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Understanding of basic RF theory is a plus.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
- Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work extended hours and be willing to travel extensively.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required..
