Academic Programs Events Specialist

Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School is seeking an Academic Programs Events Specialist to work on a casual as needed basis. Under the direction of the Carey Business School Office of Academic Administration, this position is responsible for supporting the Assistant Director of Residencies and Student Events, as well as the Sr. Associate Director of Flexible MBA Programs, in the planning and implementation of Residency and Accelerated Course experiences for all degree and certificate programs. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize multiple tasks, be detailed oriented, and have a commitment to providing the highest levels of customer service to students, faculty, and staff. This is a primary event, logistics, and administrative support position.


This role is based in Johns Hopkins University’s Harbor East location, with occasional travel to the Washington DC location for event support.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Event Support (50%)

  • Provide onsite support and assist Assistant Director and Sr. Associate Director at all Residency activities for the Flex MBA, Part-Time MS, and LDP programs.
  • Assist the Assistant Director in developing and managing activities around Accelerated Courses for part-time degree program students.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of on-site and virtual events for part-time students.


Administrative Support (40%)

  • Assist Assistant Director with financial/administrative aspects of residency, accelerated courses, and part-time student program events planning.
  • Provide support in email communication to students around program events.
  • Assist with collection of data about the student experience during Residency programs.
  • Coordinate outreach and communications with regional student leaders to support student-led event planning.


Other duties as assigned (10%)

  • Skills in collaboration and working across organizations to meet stakeholder needs and expectations.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Forms or other customer database systems.



Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Three years administrative/academic related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with event support and logistics preferred.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
