The University of Washington’s TRIO Upward Bound Math Sciences Program (UW STEMsub) was launched in 2013 to help eligible high school students excel in high school, get accepted to college and STEM majors, and graduate with a STEM degree. We serve low-income and potential first-generation college students interested in STEM fields from Cleveland, Chief Sealth, Foster, and Franklin High Schools in King County in Washington State. All services are free to program participants. UW STEMsub is one of more than 3,100 U.S. Dept. of Ed TRIO Programs that serve over 880,000 low-income and first-generation students in their pursuit of a college degree. UW STEMsub is part of the College Access unit of the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity (OMA&D) that implements programs focused on expanding access for underserved communities. POSITION PURPOSE The Curriculum Coordinator (Continuing Education Coordinator) provides tutoring in math and science and advising to our students at their high schools, provides evening and Saturday workshops, and teaches classes in the UW STEMsub Summer Academy. They also help design and implement the UW STEMsub curriculum, place students in appropriate summer STEM classes, help coordinate section instructors and Summer Academy lecturers, and help plan program events and field trips. The Curriculum Coordinator plays an important role in developing and implementing the academic and enrichment workshops and mentoring and internship opportunities for program participants. They work with other staff to manage the online learning environment, the program website, and our online communication tools. The Curriculum Coordinator utilizes multiple systems to track and monitor student progress. They employ their expertise and understanding of rigorous secondary curriculum and graduation requirements, postsecondary admissions, and career development to help advise students. To support these students, they work closely with secondary and postsecondary staff and communicate with parents/caregivers. They also collaborate with UW departments, faculty, and staff to provide opportunities and to help provide a rich curriculum that prepares UW STEMsub students motivated to attend higher education for success in STEM fields. This is a federal grant-funded position. This position is located at the UW STEMsub office on the UW Seattle Campus and requires travel to our four target high schools and occasional work on evenings and weekends. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Curriculum Coordinator will assume the following specific duties: Lead Responsibilities Lead in development and implementation of a STEM tutoring program and providing mentoring and internship opportunities for program participants. Lead in placing students in Summer Academy STEM classes, coordinating section activities, and STEM activities and field trips. Co-lead in monitoring student progress and developing academic year workshops.
