Who will you be working with?

L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor or MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom-made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction and heavy industrial industries. We are looking for a Design and Engineering Assistant to join our Design Team. They will work closely with: Production Engineering, R&D, Customer Service, Sales, Purchasing, Quality, CNC Programmers, Shop Production and Personnel.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the team, you will use information from engineered custom designs to develop the methods and bill of materials (‘BOM’) to create the end product for all plants, including providing assistance to Design and Application Engineering departments with administrative support and assist in other areas as needed to ensure prints and products process on time.

What do we want to know about you?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 yrs. in an office setting with administrative experience.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Process completed or revised engineering drawings including:

  • Processing Drafting Requests for new builds, Engineering Change Orders (‘ECOs’) and Revision Requests.

  • Assigning New Part Numbers and enter into Epicor

  • Managing SmarTeam for drafting workflow.

  • Data Input of methods on all production drawings – new and revised.

  • Understanding the flow and operations needed to input methods.

  • Notifying appropriate plants of revisions and red-filed drawings.

  • Processing Buyout forms.

  • Updating jobs with revision changes as required.

  • Distribute original or revised drawings to appropriate L&M plants and personnel per policy guidelines.

  • Editing and proofreading documents and computer entries to ensure accuracy.

  • Maintain Alpha Search

  • Maintain and Distribute reference materials including:

  • Creating and updating Reference Documents, Special Procedures (‘SPs’), Material Specifications (‘MSpecs’), Drafting Standards and Crate Drawings and maintaining their libraries and distributing to appropriate L&M plants and personnel per policy guidelines.

  • Maintain Drawing Library and Restricted Access drawings libraries.

  • Maintain BOM Library

  • Maintain and update Design and Application Engineering Assistant work instructions.

  • Maintain and Distribute Drafting Status sheet and Revision List.

  • Review and organize documents from e-mails including:

  • Check and respond to emails throughout the day.

  • Check Sales Orders emails for Revisions / Updates Needed or New Part Numbers and reply if any.

  • Checking Perth and Chile Hit Lists for new orders and revisions and notifying when they have an order with revisions.

  • Saving Chile and Perth Plant hit lists to doc viewer daily.

  • Responsible for organizing and managing files including:

  • Scanning of Drafting and Engineering and R&D Projects, ECO’s, and other miscellaneous files into SmarTeam once processed.

  • Assist with file searches.

  • Assist other departments, within abilities, regarding questions on drawings or files.

  • Assist with Supervisor functions including:

  • Answer questions / chase problems relating to drafting / engineering for other departments.

  • Preparing Month End Reports for Application Engineering Supervisor.

  • Ordering and maintaining supplies for department inventory.

  • Assist with training of new employees, including to other plants.

  • Includes training of:

  • Hold Codes

  • Revision Control

  • Drawing and BOM Libraries

  • Drafting Status sheet and Revision List

  • Miscellaneous Drafting Reference Documents

  • Overview of our job responsibilities and duties

  • Perform other related work or job duties as required by supervisor.

  • Perform work in a safe manner and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.

  • Domestic and International travel may be required and could include weekend travel depending on the project or situation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for Entry Level:

  • Dependability under both supervised and unsupervised conditions.

  • Proficient in Using Microsoft Office Products and Adobe.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment DMV screen, physical, drug, and background test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Epicor or similar ERP system.

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

This role is also eligible for a production bonus.
