Job Description:
Based out of the General Industrial lab in Minneapolis, MN, this position will lead a team of support and research and development personnel who analyze, test, and develop new or updated formulas for the Powder Transportation Market Segment. Responsible for supervising staff, developing project objectives, and communicating with GI Technical leadership, Marketing and Sales teams, and directly to Customers as needed. This individual will serve as the primary contact for highly technical and complex questions and concerns from plants, research professionals, quality control, customers and other internal and external parties regarding development and related programs and services.
Additionally, this position is responsible for traveling to SW Powder manufacturing facilities or external customer sites as required to provide oversight, support, and expertise towards the successful production and usage of products for the Transportation Market Segment. This travel will be mostly domestic but can occasionally be international so the candidate would need a the ability to get a passport and the ability to travel internationally if required.
* Supervises staff to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, providing compensation recommendations, and determining disciplinary actions when necessary.
* Manages support and research and development personnel who analyze, test, and develop new or updated formulas for the Powder Transportation Market Segment; may individually perform tasks that require comprehensive understanding of chemistry, product lines, and materials.
* Assists with developing project objectives, which includes proposed budgets, timelines, materials, personnel, and other project requirements, receives direction and presents information to management for approval; projects are typically for a sub-set of a business group and are smaller in scope.
* Individually performs specialized tasks requiring a high-level of chemistry and coating expertise.
* Reviews and evaluates project reports, analyses, and data to ensure conformity with project objectives, determines corrective action and implements changes; receives direction on complex or unique circumstances.
* Serves as a member of project and business teams and assists Marketing and Sales Teams for the Transportation Segment with developing specific sales, production, research, and related team objectives.
* Oversees and/or serves as the primary contact for highly technical and complex questions and concerns from plants, research professionals, quality control, customers and other internal and external parties regarding development and related programs and services.
* Travels to SW Powder manufacturing facilities or external customer sites as required to provide oversight, support, and expertise towards the successful production and usage of products for the Transportation Market Segment.
* Reads and interprets relevant technical information, examines new product concepts and technology, and determines how to improve or utilize technology to develop product lines.
* Interprets and applies department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations; ensures compliance with these areas.
* Presents technology, product, and application information to internal and external customers.
* Assists with developing and monitoring project budgets and approves expenditures under span of control; budgets and expenditures are smaller in scale.
* Maintain safe operating procedures through complete knowledge of safety rules and lab procedures.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
* Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
* Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
* 3 year or more of industrial paint formulation
* Supervisory or mentoring experience
* Project leadership/management
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Minimum of 5 years of industrial paint formulation or related field
* Experience working with liquid, powder or electrodeposition technology for industrial divisions as appropriate to the job
* Proven problem solving and decision making skills and abilities
* Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Travel Requirements: 30% Domestic and International
