About the Job



The primary purpose of this position is data collection in the field of collecting conducting point counts, camera trap deployment and maintenance, nest searching, telemetry, or a combination of activities. Also responsible for data entry and data processing.

Job Duties
Data collection (85%)
Efficiently and reliably collect data in the field for various projects. Includes but is not limited to pointcount surveys, migration surveys, telemetry, nest searching, vegetation surveys, camera trap and ARU deployments.
April- August as project portfolio dictates. Must be comfortable working and navigating independently off-road (i.e. bushwhacking) and be able to withstand wet, cold, and occasionally hot conditions with constant exposure to extreme numbers of biting insects.
Data entry and management (15%)
Enter data collected in the field following data management protocols, includes bird, vegetation, camera trap, and spatial data.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent with some science courses and two years of experience in relevant academic and work experience may be substituted.
Training or coursework related to ecology including biology, wildlife ecology, conservation biology, ornithology.
Experience working outdoors.
Experience working in a team setting and following Standard Operating Procedures.
Previous experience working with digital databases, such as Microsoft Excel, and Google Docs.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in flora and fauna in the Lake Superior Region.
Experience with point counts, nest searching, and radio telemetry.
Working knowledge of the ecology of northern Minnesota's breeding birds.
