Description/Job Summary

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for management and oversight of all administrative and academic technology services provided to students, faculty and staff. BCCC is looking for a highly skilled, highly motivated senior Information Technology (IT) leader to help usher in a significant technology refresh and to install practices for running IT operations at the College.

The CIO works collaboratively with the Cabinet and provides institution-wide vision, leadership and strategic direction in the planning, implementation, management, and operation of information technology to advance the goals of the College. The CIO reports directly to the President on IT operations and strategic direction and serves as the College's senior advisor on matters related to information technology.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Lead and manage day-to-day IT operations
  • In collaboration with the President, spearhead the institutional IT strategic priorities
  • Advocate for digital effectiveness and transformation through the use of technology.  Educate College leadership and relevant constituencies about the College’s information technology (IT) vision, plans, operations, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of the IT Master Plan, in support of the College’s strategic plan and the allocation of budgetary resources. Maintain alignment between the College’s mission and vision and Information Technology Services (ITS) expenditures and activities.
  • Establish technical standards and ensure adherence to those standards.   
  • Work in collaboration with Academic Affairs leadership to further define and implement technology to support the delivery of academic programs and enable teaching and learning
  • Work in collaboration with Student Affairs leadership to further define and implement technology to support the delivery of recruiting, retention and other Student Affairs functions to improve the student experience.
  • Communicate and lead continuous digital improvement within the College.  Work in collaboration with back office / operational areas leadership of the College to use technology to provide services in a streamlined and efficient manner.  Work in collaboration with all business offices (e.g. Institutional Research, Finance, Student Affairs, Human Resources, and Academic Affairs) to ensure the integrity of institutional information and develop an overarching plan for the use of data analytics to meet internal and external stakeholder needs.
  • Ensure architecture of the IT portfolio provides appropriate protection, flexibility and scalability to meet current and future needs.
  • Oversee the regular assessment of IT data security, risk management, disaster recovery, business continuity to ensure processes are in place and policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Lead, guide, and oversee all aspects of the ITS department including: budgeting, staffing and organizational design, training and other functions.
  • Develop and support processes for prioritizing, executing, and maintaining IT projects.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork among the technology staff and build a strong staff commitment to exemplary customer service.

  • Experience and competency in adopting and integrating emerging technologies, as well as using life cycle management processes, for software development and change management.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in computer science, IT, or relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of supervisory, progressively more responsible experience in leading and managing an information technology operation for a complex organization. Direct experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation and operations.
  • Experience developing and executing technology strategic plans and deploying complex technologies.  Ability to successfully execute short-term, long-range, and strategic IT plans that enable the overall strategic direction of the College. 
  • Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure, of best practices in IT policies and procedures, and of IT tools and techniques. Leadership and supervisory experience with key technology functions and personnel.

  • An understanding of technology in higher education and a vision for the future.
  • Experience and direct knowledge about the functions and operations in an institution of Higher Education.
