POSITION TITLE

Senior Applications Development Chemist

POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the development and growth of the global coatings additives business by creating relevant applications data packages for strategic markets and supporting R&D developments. Secondary responsibilities include conducting scientific investigations into the properties and mechanisms of unique additive technologies. This position is located at the Borchers brand HQ in Westlake, Ohio and will report to the North American Technical Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Generate application data for market development projects
Develop deep understanding of product portfolio and leverage knowledge to address unmet needs in the coatings space
Design and conduct experiments to validate value propositions for Borchers additives
Formulate and test coatings for architectural, industrial, and transportation applications

Work closely with research group(s) to generate data and launch new products with high market impact. Including
Investigating chemistry and mechanisms for unique additive technologies
Co-develop and evaluate new prototypes and concepts

Adherence to and development of standard test methods for coatings, inks, sealants, etc.
Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
Present applications data at trade shows
Author technical papers
Collaborate with key customers and participate in application field trials

Provide input to technical and marketing groups to promote business growth
Support the development of technical literature, sales tools, and training programs
Commitment to EHS

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

BS in chemistry/ polymer science / colloid/ engineering or related field
5 years+ industry experience
Strong background in formulation research
Position requires up to 20% travel, domestic & international

The successful candidate will have strengths in the following:

MS or PhD preferred
10 years+ industry experience is preferred
Sound scientific reasoning and attention to detail
Experience with design of experiments
Desire to be part of a global team
Critical thinking and creative problem-solving
Experience with instrumental analysis
Ambition, drive, and ability to work independently
Strong communication and presentation skills
Project and time management skills
