About the Job



The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension in the University of Minnesota's School of Medicine is seeking a Biostatistician/Data manager to join the Department of Medicine. This position will report to Dr. Paul Drawz, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Associate Chair of Clinical Research.

-MNEHR Consortium projects, including COVID-19 Project, Observational Medical

Outcomes
Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) Implementation Project, Telehealth Evaluation Project, and Health Trends Across Communities (HTAC) Project
Responsibilities:
In collaboration with investigators in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension and other researchers throughout the University of Minnesota, MNEHR Consortium, and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), this position will be responsible for handling a variety of assigned complex related projects. This will include in-depth use of biostatistics and data management and formulating analytic plans with minimal guidance and oversight from manager. This role will also be responsible for leading collaborative efforts related to analytic challenges for the Consortium.
Duties for this position include:
Data management (40%): Data cleaning and manipulation using SQL and R; and preparation of study datasets consistent with the projects. Direct and supervise graduate students to assist with data management. Modify data management practices to improve analytic efficiency and quality.
Data analysis (40%): Design and implement data analysis plans for multiple projects using R followed by interpretation of results. This will include coordination of analyses, evaluating results, providing regular updates on projects, interpreting complex data, advising the study team and PI on research techniques, and preparing results for publication/presentation. Analyses involve complex methodology and challenging research problems given the distributed nature of the Consortium data. Original solutions and advanced analytic techniques are required, often in
the absence of clear standards. Direct and supervise graduate students to assist in preparation and performance of studies.
Data dissemination (15%): Collaborate on reports, conference papers and publications, including first-authoring papers as time warrants. Prepare manuscripts for publication and work with journal editors/reviewers to revise manuscripts for publication.
Liaison (5%): Serve as a liaison to trainees using the data, providing guidance and insights regarding data availability and 'best practices'. Also serves as an expert resource to outside
collaborators from the Consortium on projects led by other sites. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications: ( Must be documented in all application materials)
* Advance degree in MS in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field with 1 or more years of research training/experience working with distributed data
* Demonstrated proficiency using SQL and R (preferred) for data management, analysis and simulation
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Comfortable working independently, with experience working with multiple teams.
