Required Skills:
Provides support to students and their team to promote student success.
-Participates in designated team meetings, individual education plan conferences and periodic reviews involved with assessment, programming and reevaluation decisions.
-Maintains close communication with classroom teachers, other staff and parents concerning student’s performance.
-Prepares, implements and evaluates an annual educational plan and plan of care for each student based on individually assessed needs and in accordance with district procedures.
-Designs and constructs adaptive equipment and assistive devices.
-Maintains close communication with both Executive Director of Learner Support Services (LSS), LSS Program Managers, and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Provide direct services to assist in meeting student success.
-Conducts assessments, evaluations and screenings to detect the existence of speech or language disabilities including receptive and expressive language disorders, voice disorders, disorders of fluency and articulation in accordance with due process procedures.
-Delivers and provides speech and language remediation and intervention services to alleviate communication needs in accordance with IEP. Plans appropriate lessons to achieve desired set goals and objectives.
-Schedules evaluation and treatment times and location with teachers and building principal.
-Maintains accurate records, including assessment results, therapy progress and reports.

Provides resources and consultation to assist in meeting student needs.
-Consults with teachers and parents regarding appropriate activities, self-help skills and special equipment or assistive devices as necessary.
-Provides consultation or indirect therapy for selected students who qualify for such services.
-Develops and provides formal and informal in-service programs for teachers and parents regarding speech and language therapy.
-Acts as liaison between school district and community agencies, doctors and hospitals as needed to provide continuing speech and language therapy services.
Promotes School and community awareness of speech and language therapy.

Professional Development
Attends training sessions, seminars, department meetings.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:
Education and Experience:
-Master Degree in Speech/Language Pathology, Communication Disorders or related area
-Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education in Speech and Language Pathology.

Preferred Qualification
-3 years of experience with children with disabilities in a school or residential setting.
-Certificate in Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is desired but not required.

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing speech and language therapy services directly to qualifying students based upon state and federal requirements in the areas of language, articulation, fluency and voice. Conducts speech and language assessments of student needs; interprets informal and standardized communicative measures; and participates in the development of individualized educational plans for students with eligible communicative needs.
