A Medical Assistant or Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant in this role, will become familiar with performing fit testing for N95 masks required for caregivers who work with certain high risk respiratory patient populations. You will work alongside an RN to administer fit tests and educate caregivers about N95 mask use across 29 Cleveland Clinic locations in the Northeast Ohio region. You will travel to at least 2 different Cleveland Clinic locations per day to hold a clinic for testing and educating caregivers. You will also perform a variety of administrative duties and possibly phlebotomy, if certified as an M.A., during down time to support occupational health teams. This role will include daily local travel and requires a flexible schedule as start and end times will depend on each location's operating hours. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required but will be rare. You will need a reliable mode of transportation, a valid driver's license, and personal car insurance. Travel will be reimbursed.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of physician or nurse, assists with performing assessments and treatments.
  • Gathers information related to health maintenance and specimen collection and documents patient care given.
  • Updates health maintenance at patient visit.
  • Accurately identifies medication changes and updates allergies at each visit.
  • Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
  • Administers specific medications under direction of physician.
  • Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains examination areas.
  • Assists in pre-visit planning, update of health maintenance tab.
  • Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
  • Some positions may be required to travel to Cleveland Clinic locations throughout Northeast Ohio.  Submits accurate time, travel, and expense in a timely manner.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Understanding of human anatomy sufficient to perform job duties.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities.
  • Additional formal training /education may substitute some or all stated experience.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program strongly preferred

Certifications:

  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required within new hire period.
  • MA Certification preferred.

Competencies (Complexity of Work):

  • Requires good interpersonal skills to interact with all staff, patients and family members.
  • Requires strong organizational skills to set priorities, organize work activities and complete assigned work.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one year recent health care experience in a hospital, ambulatory, homecare, assistant living, nursing home or long term care setting required.
  • Proficient in the use of an electronic medical record preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
  • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
  • Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
  • Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
  • Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
