About the Job



This summer the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at the University of Minnesota will be hosting two summer camps in 2024. The National Transportation Summer Institute will host 30 students entering grades 7-9 on campus for a two-week camp introducing them to topics and careers in the transportation industry. Students will engage in academic curriculum, work on a group project, and go on several field trips throughout the Twin Cities. The CAV Career Pathways Camp will host 20 students entering grades 10-12 on campus for a one-week camp introducing them to careers in the field of connected and automated vehicles.
We are looking for one additional person to join our team. The selected candidate will join CTS staff in the delivery of the two camps.
Relationships
Reports to camp director and camp coordinator.
Responsible to camp director for producing program deliverables.
Compensation will be provided at $18.00 per hour.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
20% - Camp Preparation
Assisting with printing and packing of camp materials.
80% Camp Delivery and Assistance
Assisting in the delivery of camp activities.
Supervising students throughout camp.
Identifying and responding to camper behavior issues; reporting any behavior issues to the camp coordinator or director.
Assisting in maintaining accurate program records including things such as daily attendance, checking students into and out of camp, and student evaluations.
Assisting in set-up and clean-up of events, lunches, and other camp-related activities, including transporting supplies.
Knowing, enforcing, and following all safety and emergency guidelines associated with the camp.
Work Hours
Up to full time at 40 hours per week
Be available weekdays Monday, July 8 through Friday, August 16th.
The selected candidate will need to be on-site from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on work days.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications
At least 18 years old with a high school diploma/GED or equivalent
Some experience working with youth, preferably in a leadership or educational setting
Energetic and outgoing demeanor when hosting events
Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
Ability to prioritize and complete work assignments from multiple staff
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, good organization and prioritization
A desire to work in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment
A desire to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to problem-solve, take initiative and to be proactive
Excellent customer service skills; a professional demeanor and appearance
Ability to pass a criminal background check (required by University policy for youth programs)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with middle or high school aged students, particularly in a summer camp setting

About the Department



The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) is a unique University of Minnesota center that conducts transportation research, education, and outreach programs in a broad number of areas. The Center currently works with more than 33 academic departments throughout the University. CTS consists of approximately 30 professional staff and several students who deliver the Center's multiple programs.
