Job Summary:
This is a multi-duty, intra-department position that requires working under the direction of both the Creative Strategist and the Media Relations Manager to assist overall marketing efforts of the company by crafting compelling content, with an emphasis on video production, that boosts engagement and drives interest across a variety of marketing channels and media outlets. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, a creative eye, video production experience, and strong writing and communication skills, all while being detail-oriented and a dependable team player. Responsible for supporting the Companies mission, vision, and values by providing fun and games like no place else, and adheres to the Canterbury Way by focusing on our core values.
Job duties include: Development, writing, filming, production and dissemination of stories, information, and social media messages in various formats to a variety of constituents as directed by the Media Relations Manager and Creative Strategist. Assisting with the daily operation of the press box on live racing days.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with Creative Strategist to assist in the planning, writing, production and editing of video and digital content for our different audience segments, ensuring that messaging is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice.
Develop and write: blog posts, long-form articles, story pitches, and other promotional materials in an array of writing styles/voices. Work with track photographer to obtain art as needed.
Assist media outlets when onsite, both print and electronic, as needed during live racing and special events.
Responsible for the planning, set up and take down of video or photo shoots.
Submit weekly profiles and stories on deadline.
Assist in marketing promotions and work directly with racing officials, department heads and the racing office.
Various press box duties as needed.
Supply maintenance.
All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED.
Seeking a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Video Production, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Experience in audio and video recording, editing, and production.
Experience in copywriting and editing with excellent grammatical skills, attention to detail and the ability to develop content that requires little to no editing.
Must have strong writing and story-telling skills with ability to interview and build relationships to support content-generation efforts with subject matter expertise.
Self-starter with experience that demonstrates project management capabilities in a fast paced environment and the ability to multitask, prioritize, organize, and manage time accordingly.
Must be comfortable working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Ability to adjust to a variety of client temperaments and personalities and be willing to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to meet deadlines and complete a project accurately in a high-stress environment.
Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Must be able to pass Canterbury Park's pre-employment screening which includes a criminal background check, and a verification of work history.
Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of all social media platforms.
Extended knowledge of or work experience in the horse racing industry.
Bi-lingual Spanish speaker.
Graphic design experiences a plus.
