Guardian Life Senior Life Underwriter – Individual Markets in Washington, District Of Columbia

Do you want to be part of a collaborative Underwriting team? In this role you will use your expertise to determine the insurability as well as premium classification utilizing tools available including medical history, financial verification and various third-party vendor provided reports.

The Senior Life Underwriter is accountable for managing assigned work, developing agency relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction at the highest level. The position requires the individual to operate in a cross-functional team environment.

You are

·Someone who can work autonomously and confidently makes underwriting decisions that provide the best offer within their assigned approval authority and protect mortality.

·Able to transform conceptual thinking into competitive decisions that align with company philosophy and department guidelines.

You have

·4+ years of experience in individual life underwriting

·Bachelor’s degree

·Industry related education (ALU, CLU, LOMA, etc.)

·Knowledge of underwriting manuals, MIB reporting, and various risk assessment vendor tools

·An aptitude for risk assessment, collaboration, and customer service

·The ability to think divergently

You will

·Recognize and obtain requirements necessary in evaluating risks, consistently using a holistic approach (a “broadened view” of the entire case to forecast all needs and requirements at onset)

·Evaluate medical, financial, and non-medical information, as developed, to determine the risk classification according to company guidelines

·Collaborate with our reinsurers to negotiate and secure risk classification for business that may exceed our mortality standards, exceed our corporate retention, and/or for the benefit of securing a more competitive offer

·Communicate with field partners and home office personnel for the purpose of acquiring necessary information, solving problems, negotiating appeals, and conveying decisions in a polite, confident, and professional manner

Reporting Relationships

As our Senior Life Underwriter, you will report to our Underwriting Manager, who reports to our Lead of Underwriting Operations.

Salary Range

$66,130.00 - $108,640.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
