About the Job



The Intramural and Inclusive Recreation Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities and Intramural Sports and is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and direction of the intramural and inclusive recreation program. These programs see approximately 4,000 University of Minnesota students participate annually. This position is responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of over 100 student employees to ensure that operations run smoothly while also having a strong commitment to the University's goal of creating a positive and inclusive campus climate by advancing equity and diversity. This is a 100% time, 12 month continuous position. Typical hours of work are on-site, with some remote work possible, and will sometimes require attendance at evening and weekend activities, games, and events.

Work Responsibilities
Management (50%)
Recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising approximately 120 intramural sports student supervisors, officials, and office staff
Managing a comprehensive officiating training program and conducting officiating clinics and training sessions for 7 officiated sports
Setting performance goals, checking their progress regularly for accountability, and motivating staff to do their best
Managing staff risk management certifications and University trainings
Monitoring and approving student payroll
Programming Intramural Sports Leagues and Events (30%)
Planning, developing, scheduling, and facilitating registration for approximately 6,000 games, clinics, and special events annually
Departmental subject matter expert of registration and scheduling platform (Fusion Play) for intramural activities
Coordinating with Assistant Director of Facilities and Intramural Sports on facility reservations for all intramural sport leagues and activities
Enforcing and evaluating policies and procedures for intramural sports games, leagues, and events; updating rules and policies manuals; staying informed of sport and league rule changes in accordance with governing bodies
Assessing and managing risk and ensuring participant and staff safety
Utilizing data analytics to identify programming trends and future league forecast models Assisting Brand Management with marketing and strategies to promote intramural sports program offerings and student staff recruitment
Addressing participant comments, concerns, and incidents
Inclusive Recreation (10%):
Assisting in program development of adaptive, esports, informal, Unified Sports, and other inclusive recreation activities
Maintaining relationships with University and community partners (i.e. Special Olympics, Disability Resource Center, Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute)
Serving as point of contact for student, faculty, and staff inquiries regarding adaptive and inclusive recreation programs
Planning, Resource Management, and Development (10%):
Assisting in the intramural sports and inclusive recreation operations budget and long term planning Oversee league participation numbers and reporting on a semesterly basis
Assist in developing Intramural policies and revenue-generating enterprises
Purchasing and maintaining inventory of program equipment and apparel
Oversee player fee revenues and refunds in accordance with departmental and University standards

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:
BA/BS plus at least four (4) years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight (8) years
Experience in formal sports programming
Experience supervising student employees or other part-time staff
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in administration of sports programming software (Fusion Play, IMLeagues, etc.)
Experience fostering an inclusive environment and appreciative of differences in the workplace
Experience in officials training

About the Department



Recreation & Wellness is a department within the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs (OSA) at the University of Minnesota. We offer hundreds of recreation, exercise, and sport opportunities for the University community and operate the University Recreation and Wellness Center, University Aquatic Center, University Fieldhouse, St. Paul Gymnasium, Student Recreational Sports Fields and Dome, West Bank Fields, St. Paul Soccer Fields, St. Paul Tennis Courts, and Les Bolstad University Golf Course. Amenities in University Recreation and Wellness indoor facilities include fourteen handball/racquetball courts, eleven squash courts, ten multi-use rooms and studios, six gymnasiums, five swimming pools, three indoor running tracks, and two rock climbing walls. The facilities also offer more than 500 treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical trainers, weight machines, and other pieces of exercise equipment. University Recreation & Wellness is funded by student fees and revenue generated by the department.

The department workforce is approximately 50 full-time staff and 575 student employees.
