Job Description Summary

GE Edison Works Engineering Materials Systems (EMS) organization has an opening for a Specialist. The Specialist will support military materials development by performing hands on materials characterization through data collection, analysis and processing. In this role you will utilize your expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and be able to affect business goals. The job requires technical skill and understanding in materials characterization, composite manufacturing, lab management, and integration with groups outside materials engineering to ensure business objectives are met. Obtaining and Maintaining an active DoD clearance is a requirement for this role.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with materials characterization testing operation, data collection, management and basic level analysis.

  • Familiarity performing work according to ASTM standards.

  • Familiarity with analytical testing equipment such as TGA, DSC, TMA, PSD, etc.

  • Strong organizational skills both in physical lab spaces and data management.

  • Define, approach, test, analyze, review, and implement technical program objectives on schedule and within budget and leverage prior work where appropriate.

  • Make technical decisions by applications of specialized knowledge / skills in materials and process engineering using independent judgement and discretion.

  • Recommend technical approach, required resources, and schedule interfaces with other Engineering Departments, Centers of Excellence, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Global Research Center, and Suppliers as required.

  • Collaborate with customer organizations to assure they are working solutions to customer issues.

  • Communicate status and problems to project leaders and management.

  • Document results, participate in program reviews, and prepare invention disclosures where appropriate.

  • Ability to provide training and direction to technicians and team members when necessary.

  • Contribute to lab operations standard work for documentation and process improvements.

  • Following and maintaining area Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and other operating / safety practices and procedures.

  • Support and perform work in compliance to all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations.

  • Ability and willingness to perform core lab responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college OR a high school diploma/GED with 6 years of experience in design engineering.

  • Ability to secure and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

  • Ability to work on-site and in-person full time

Desired Characteristics

  • Existing Secret clearance

  • Experience in coatings and composite materials analysis in a manufacturing and development setting

  • Be a strong contributor to material development activities by providing expertise to team on potential process improvement

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
