Scope of Responsibility: To oversee and participate in the direct care of residents. Responsible for the nursing assistants, ensuring that their duties are carried out appropriately.
Essential Functions:
- Carry out duties and function to support Walnut Hills as assigned.
- Live the mission and values to improve the quality of services for residents and team members on the Walnut Hills campus.
- Respect residents’ rights and adhere to rules of resident care and services as described in the Walnut Hills Employee Handbook.
- Receive report from out-going nurse at the beginning of the shift and give report to in-coming nurse at the end of the shift.
- Supervise and oversee the STNA’s work.
- Informed and knowledgeable of each resident’s care needs and ensure that care plans are carried out appropriately.
- Make routine checks of residents and maintain awareness of their conditions and needs.
- Assure resident safety.
- Perform routine nursing care measures, including vital signs, weight and food intake monitoring, and behavior monitoring when appropriate.
- Administer medications and treatments and perform appropriate diagnostic tests as ordered.
- Document all pertinent information on resident charts.
- Update the physician and family in a timely manner of any changes in the resident’s condition.
- Process physician orders, admissions, and discharges, and update the resident and family as needed.
- Oversee preparation of body and notifies funeral home when resident expires.
- Fill out incident reports when necessary and submit them to supervisor.
- Responsible for ongoing operation of the nursing care, making certain that supplies are replenished, medications ordered, needed maintenance repairs are reported and minor housekeeping duties are performed.
- Keep supervisor updated on resident / staff issues as they arise.
- Maintain CEUs to renew nursing license biannually
Position Requirements: A. Education & Experience
- Current and in good standing, licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio required.
- Must maintain license as required by the facility or the state.
- Experience with older patients and long-term care preferable.
Skills and Requirements
- Knowledge and support of the standards, policies, and procedures of Walnut Hills.
- Leadership ability in supervising nursing assistants.
- Perceptive observation and assessment skills.
- Current knowledge of medications administered to residents and their side effects.
- Good documentation skills in charting.
- Willingness to cooperate with other department heads and personnel.
- Patience, tact, and cheerful disposition with staff, residents, and families.
Physical/Mental Requirements & Working Conditions

- Frequent fingering, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and repetitive motions required.
- Occasional reaching, kneeling, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling required.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 80 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently.
- Requires the ability to see things clearly at 20 inches or less, as is common in visual inspection or computer work.
- This position is not substantially exposed to adverse working conditions. Adherence to universal precautions is required.
- Requires the ability to lift residents to a chair with the assistant of another person and a gait belt.

Details:Starting wages are $29.52 to 35.89 per hour, based on experience, skills & abilities. Workdays can be any day of the week, including holidays and weekends and any shift. Both Full-Time and Part-Time positions available from 8 to 40 hours per week.
