Post doctoral Associate Position Description
Start date: June 2024
Duration: 24 months

Recruiting a post doctoral research associate to lead research measuring oxythermal performance of Coregonids in the lab and integrating physiological data into statistical models of responses to climate change.

Responsibilities will include:
Lead research on oxythermal performance of Coregonids (60%). This includes all aspects of the research process, including defining questions and objectives, literature review, setting up and conducting lab experiments, performing data analysis and visualization, publishing manuscripts, and presenting/communicating results.
Rearing Coregonids in the lab (30%). Much of the work for this research involves laboratory studies on physiological responses to different oxythermal conditions. The successful candidate will design and build aquaria for rearing and holding larval Coregonids at different temperature and oxygen conditions, collaborate with hatchery managers throughout the Great Lakes to obtain eggs, successfully hatch and rear fish from multiple sources under multiple environmental conditions, and take multiple measurements tracking physiological responses of early life stages.
Stakeholder engagement (5%): Work with project team and stakeholders to co-develop
research questions, data products, and communication tools to support the incorporation of
research results into management actions.
Assist with and collaborate on other projects (5%), including grant writing, budget
management, report writing, analytical support, and working with students and/or technicians to support the general mission of the group.
Salary: Minimum of $56,484 annually plus benefits.

Qualifications



Qualifications:
Successful candidates are required to possess (by the position start date) a Ph.D. in fisheries science, ecology, limnology, or a related field. Experience conducting applied physiology research, raising larval fish and conducting thermal trials in a lab, expertise in metabolic in thermal physiology, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are critical.
Preferred qualifications include; a background in fisheries ecology and science, experience working as part of multi-disciplinary research teams; and experience working with natural resource agencies.
