Copeland Project Engineer in Sidney, Ohio

The Project Engineering position will support new product development of HVAC products including, but not limited to, fixed speed, variable speed, multiples, and other modulation enhanced compressors. This position will be responsible for the evaluation, maturation, and development of new design technologies, in order to improve efficiency, reduce cost, improve reliability, and enable incremental value for customer applications. These new technologies include, but are not limited to working with our enhanced vapor injection units and our new variable frequency drive platform. In addition, they will provide engineering direction and execution of projects into full production while working in a cross-functional team-orientated environment with local and global colleagues.

As a Project Engineer, you will:

  • Demonstrate strong project management ability in the execution of independently run projects and test campaigns

  • Conceive, mature, qualify, and implement new product technologies per business objectives

  • Participate in global collaboration and coordination with technical colleagues for NPD initiatives

  • Collaborate with internal and external customers and cross-functional colleagues by communicating technical and project information

  • Utilize existing calculators and engineering tools as well as facilitation of creation of new design and analysis tools as needed/appropriate.

  • Define and execute development and testing plans based with a mindset towards risk mitigation, and coordinate with appropriate resources for timely execution

  • Apply and support the incorporation of Lean principles and techniques into the New Product Development process.

  • Formulate and share project updates and technical findings as needed.

  • Perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Required education, experience & skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology plus one (1) years of relevant industry experience

  • Independent thinker capable of leading cross functional programs in a matrix organization

  • Project management skills including developing program schedules, and aiding team decisions

  • Technical problem-solving abilities

  • Strong communications skills and ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders

Preferred education, experience & skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology plus Three (3) years of relevant industry experience

  • Established track record in global collaboration and global product development

  • A basic working knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and how to deploy them

  • Experience with Minitab or other statistical software

  • Experience with Lean methodologies, Lean product development, and passion for continuous improvement

  • HVAC systems awareness, ability to integrate compressor with power electronics and other system controls
