Web Manager and Strategist

Probationary period: One year

The University of Minnesota Morris is seeking applications for the position of Web Manager and Strategist in the Office of Communications and Marketing. This is a 100% time, 12-month position. While physical presence on campus is a critical component, some remote work may be considered as a flexible option.

The Web Manager and Strategist will plan, create, develop, publish, and edit web content to attract and serve internal and external stakeholders. This position will partner with Information Technology (IT) and work with OCM team members.

This position collaborates with the OCM team to identify, organize, and customize content to be shared across multiple platforms, including webpages, social media, video, and print. This position is responsible for developing and managing the campus web content strategy, ensuring that it aligns with brand standards and the overall university marketing strategy. In addition to collaboratively organizing, writing, and editing site content, this position provides support and management to website constituents and works closely with local and University of Minnesota System partners to maintain site standards and enhance the user experience. This position also assists with overall planning for the UMN Morris website, maintenance, structure, and requires forward thinking about upcoming content needs.

This position supports institutional strategic priorities, especially student recruitment and retention. The incumbent must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail; prioritize and meet deadlines; build positive on-going relationships; work well in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of individuals on campus. The position requires flexibility and assists the Office of Communications and Marketing with a variety of department initiatives and projects as needed. Position currently reports to the creative manager.

Responsibilities:
Content Strategy and Management: (30%)
Research, identify, and develop new ways to deliver valuable engaging content to target audiences, including for recruiting, current campus community, alumni, and friends.
Assist with the coordination and implementation of marketing tactics across multiple communications platforms, including, but not limited to web, digital media (including social media), and print.
Create content in alignment with University accessibility standards.
Utilize best practices and serve as primary web content editor to ensure consistency and quality.
Assist in defining the web communications strategy for an organizational unit, consistent with the overall digital strategy and brand of the university.
Ensure that web-based information matches and enhances the UMN Morris brand and other publications such as print materials; comply with branding and style guides.
Provide project management skills and leadership with regards to quality control, standard compliance, and content of campus website.
Web Management: (40%)
Act as primary project manager for UMN Morris website maintenance projects and conduit to U of M System resources and consultant resources. Serve a subject matter expert for all phases of web development, integration, and management/support.
Contribute to the development of content types, custom solutions, views, entities, taxonomies, and other web elements.
Create new or edit existing webpages to ensure engaging content and layout for a positive user experience.
Manage and organize website content; assist other campus units in content organization, management, and strategy.
Troubleshoot CMS technical issues and work with local or System Information Technology to resolve them.
Effectively anticipate problems and proactively generate solutions. Contribute to the overall user experience on the UMN Morris website.
Implement and assist campus in information architecture and search engine optimization best practices.
Relationship Management: (20%)
Communicate regularly with various departments to ensure site content is up to date and meets online goals and requirements.
Schedule and facilitate end-user training and discussions; work in collaboration with Marketing and Communications to lead web team meetings.
Work with System resources and other Communications and Marketing staff to monitor web analytics and provide reports and recommendations to leadership on a regular basis.
Other: (10%)
Manage a team of student employees who provide web content support for campus.
Assist other Office of Communications and Marketing staff with department initiatives and projects as needed.
Work evening and weekend hours when necessary.

Qualifications



Qualifications
Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities:
BA/BS degree in communications, journalism, marketing, design, technical field or a related field plus 2 years professional experience or 6 years combined equivalent education and experience;
Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;
Effective written and oral communication skills, and a strong customer service orientation;
Demonstrated ability to communicate expectations and deadlines clearly with co-workers and with other departments.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
Experience with web content management systems;
Demonstrated strong client communication and interaction;
Demonstrated success with project management;
Experience with search engine optimization;
Experience with website analytics and user experience;
Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and its implementation
Experience creating accessible content, media, and websites;
Demonstrated experience fostering a cooperative work environment with a diverse population;
Four years of related experience with web content.
