About the Job



Position Overview:
The Career Development and Residency Match Coordinator in Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) at the University of Minnesota Medical School provides high-level facilitation, leadership, and management for our Faculty Advisor Program and is also responsible for managing the residency match and career development processes for medical students. The Career Development and Residency Match Coordinator acts with a high degree of independence to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to accomplish goals and execute services, provides vision, and continual quality improvement for the medical student career development and specialty discernment process. Strong organizational, relationship building, supervisory, communication, adaptability, and strategic planning skills are required. This position is housed within the Student Affairs unit of UME and reports to the Director of Student Affairs.

Duties/Responsibilities:
60%: Leadership, Programming, and Resource Development
Develops, plans, and executes a four year career development curriculum designed to achieve high quality career and residency match services and support
Operationalizes the career counseling program across all Medical School campuses
Facilitates communication and collaborations between students, Faculty Advisors, Academic Advisors, Specialty Experts, departments, and third party resources
Facilitates student access to career counseling resources
Provides strategic planning and evaluation on career development and residency match advising, resources, and support
Develops new resources and leads quality improvement efforts as needed
Recommends career development, third party vendor, professional development, and other items for annual budgets
Leads the Student Career and Professional Development Advisory Board.
Manage a core group of Specialty Experts including recruitment, development and coordination of specialty specific resources
Partners with students and relevant departments and units across the Office of Medical Education to develop access to career and specialty discernment mentoring, programming, information, and resources
Works with the Office of Clinical Curriculum to integrate career development into the MS-3 and MS-4 curriculum
Advises medical students on their career development and residency application process via individual appointments/consultations as well as group programming and written communications
25%: Manage the Residency Match Process
Match Coordination
Leads all processes related to Match preparation, including but not limited to: communication with students, faculty advisors, and program coordinators; creation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) individual documents; and management of various electronic application systems
AUA, SF Match, & National Residency Match Program Management.
Manage the Medical School's and students' full participation in the various residency matching programs, including the NRMP, SF, AUA and Military
Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
Collaborates with the Assessment and Evaluation, IT, clerkship coordinators, Program Directors, Clerkship Directors, and other stakeholders to continually improve and streamline the creation process of the Medical Student Performance Evaluations and provide value added to residency applications
Manages the creation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) and the residency match process for approximately 230+ MS-4 students every year
10%: Training and Development
Provides support and training for the Career Advising and Development Coordinator
Assists with onboarding and continual professional development of Faculty Advisors
Provides training opportunities and resources for individuals involved in the medical student career advising process
5%: Medical School Committee and Professional Development
Participates in appropriate committees to provide ongoing involvement in the development of career and residency match services and initiatives
Conducts research and evaluation on career development initiatives, best practices and participates in AAMC/GSA professional development activities, including creating posters and other research publications

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:
BA/BS and two years of related experience or a masters degree.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, interpersonal and relationship building skills, problem solve, and the ability to function independently as well as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines while handling a wide range of complex administrative projects simultaneously
Proven ability to manage and develop programming and events
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and deadlines
Demonstrated experience with computer software required, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite of Applications (Calendar, Docs, Gmail, etc), Zoom
Ability to use varying styles, approaches, skills and techniques that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
Demonstrated success communicating with adult students and trainees
Experience in an academic environment working with faculty leaders and other diverse stakeholders
Experience in a higher ed setting supporting career development programs for Medical Students, Residents, or Fellows
Training in and knowledge of University of Minnesota systems, policies and procedures
Salary Range: $46,945.39 - $55,229.87
This position will be a one year temporary appointment. Possibility for extension will depend on available funding.
