[Store Counter Sales Representative]

FLSA: Non-exempt Job Summary: A counter sales representative’s primary responsibilities are greeting and providing sales service to customers, non-application parts, mixing paint, customer returns and resolving customer concerns. In addition, a counter sales representative’s secondary responsibilities are checking in freight, delivering parts, cycle counts, cleaning, and label maintenance. A counter sales representative is also responsible for maintaining store appearance, security, safety and daily operational standards, as set by the manager.

Qualifications:
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• At least one year of automotive parts sales experience.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Above average verbal and written communication skills.
• Be familiar with store operating procedures.
• Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the company as well as customers, vendors and visitors.
• Must meet training requirements.
• Automotive Parts knowledge or experience is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities: A counter sales representative serves retail and commercial customers with the objective of making Auto Value the leading provider of auto parts, accessories, tools, equipment and automotive paint & supplies in the marketplace.

Serve the customer
A counter sales representative is responsible for converting phone inquiries into commercial deliveries and in-store sales. A counter sales representative will serve phone and on-site customers by acknowledging them immediately when they enter, answering the phone within three rights and knowing key customers by name. A counter sales representative will ask qualifying questions, use computer and paper catalogs to identify parts, stay aware of current sales and promotions, suggest related sales items and advise possible upgrade options when appropriate. When a customer has a concern or complaint, a counter sales representative should work to resolve the issue in a way that is in the best interest of the customer and the store. Above all the counter sales representative must ensure that customers receive world-class service in having their needs met by Auto Value.

Follow procedures
When conducting sales transactions, a counter sales representative must follow proper store policies and procedures. This includes proper cash handling and credit procedures, proper use of wholesale and employee pricing, legal sales tax application and proper return, and defect and warranty procedures.

Secondary Responsibilities: The Counter Sales Representative assists in all aspects of operating an auto parts store including cleaning, merchandising, receiving, stocking & tracking inventory, delivering parts to commercial accounts, and any other duties related to the operation of an auto parts store.

Safe and Timely Delivery of Product and Vehicle Maintenance
A counter sales representative assists in accurate, safe and timely delivery and pick-up of product as well as accurate and on-time completion of required paper-work. A counter sales representative also assists in maintaining company vehicles by periodic washing, keeping the interior clean and organized and checking engine fluid levels as required.

Ensure accurate store inventory and proper store appearance
A counter sales representative ensures the store inventory is accurate and store appearance impresses our customers. The store inventory is maintained by accurately receiving and checking in freight, accurately stocking shelves and racks, accurately pricing and maintaining the retail rear merchandise, handling cores and warranties, monitoring the store for signs of inventory shrink, and in some cases, accurately conducting inventory cycle counts. The inside and outside store appearance is maintained by completing the daily floor walk checklist (available on the APH intranet) and correcting any issues that are found.

Store Safety
A counter sales representative assists in maintaining a safe environment for employees and customers. This includes keeping isles clean and clear of clutter; keeping walkways free from snow and ice; keeping the store, lot and restrooms clean; following safety procedures and maintain safety training and awareness.

• Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company handbook.
• Participate in internal and external training programs to learn more about our company, our processes and practices.
• Maintain a calm, positive demeanor when working with employees and customers.

Meet expectations: A counter sales representative completes the APH Counter sales training program, learns to sell paint and answer customer paint questions (if applicable), learns to sell basic machines shop services (if applicable), learns to complete requested overstock reports from the warehouse and participates in other APH training programs as appropriate. To meet the secondary responsibilities, a counter sales representative completes the APH Store Customer Service training program. A counter sales representative will be measured against the standards set for interaction with customers and co-workers, ability to follow store and company procedures, their performance and monthly sales.

Environment: The counter sales representative works primarily indoors in a clean store environment but also may spend time in an office or warehouse environment.

Physical Requirements: The counter sales representative will experience the following:
• Occasional standing.

• Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Continuously operates a personal computer.
• Typing.
• Frequently performs repetitive office tasks.
