The Clinical Speech Language Pathologists will provide direct clinical (speech-language pathology) service delivery to individuals with communication and related disorders (in person and/or using telepractice) at the MSUM Speech Language Hearing Sciences (SLHS) Clinic (on-campus) or via SLHS clinic-related school/healthcare/teletherapy-contracted services or external partners. This includes the design and implementation of complex speech-language pathology plans, requiring communication and documentation of care provided to professionals, caregivers, and clients. The position requires extensive knowledge of the causes and treatment of speech, language, and hearing disorders and clinical experience. If qualified and applicable, this position may also include a secondary contribution to clinical supervision and evaluation of graduate students, practicum/internship mentorship, and/or provide observational clinical experiences for Speech Language Hearing Science students at the graduate and/or undergraduate level for the Department of Speech Language Hearing Sciences and Speech Language Pathology graduate program at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

In this role, Clinical Speech Language Pathologists are expected to adhere to the core essential functions (https://www.capcsd.org/academic-and-clinical-resources/) developed by the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (2023) including the ability to:

  • Engage in physical activities at a level required to accurately implement classroom and clinical responsibilities (e.g., manipulating testing and therapeutic equipment and technology, client/patient equipment, and practice management technology) while retaining the integrity of the process.

  • Respond in a manner that ensures the safety of clients and others.

  • Access sensory information to differentiate functional and disordered auditory, oral, written, and visual communication.

  • Access sensory information to correctly differentiate anatomical structures and diagnostic imaging findings.

  • Access sensory information to correctly differentiate and discriminate text, numbers, tables, and graphs associated with diagnostic instruments and tests.

  • Engage in ongoing learning about cultures and belief systems different from one's own and the impacts of these on healthcare and educational disparities to foster effective provision of services.

  • Demonstrate the application of culturally responsive evidence-based decisions to guide clinical practice.

  • Display compassion, respect, and concern for others during all academic and clinical interactions.

  • Adhere to all aspects of relevant professional codes of ethics, privacy, and information management policies.

  • Take personal responsibility for maintaining physical and mental health at a level that ensures safe, respectful, and successful participation in didactic and clinical activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in speech-language pathology or communications disorders from a program accredited by ASHA.

  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence upon employment or upon completion of Clinical Fellowship (CF)

  • Current or Eligible for ND/MN SLP licensure upon employment.

  • Including MN Department of Education, ND Education Standards and Practices Board's Restricted Educator's Professional license as needed for contracted services.

  • Clinical service delivery experience with adults and children

  • Strong oral, written, auditory, and non-verbal communication skills in various modes (e.g., in-person, phone, and electronic formats)

  • Knowledge or willingness to learn Due Process, SPED Forms, and electronic medical records.

  • Ability to work with little direct supervision, within general guidelines and State policies, in a flexible and adaptable manner, handling multiple tasks and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with School Settings/IEPs or Private Practice Service Delivery

  • Experience with Telepractice Service Delivery

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse working and learning environment.

  • Demonstrated excellence in delivering speech-language pathology services.

  • Meets ASHA standards for Clinical Supervision

  • Experience in clinical instruction, supervision, or mentorship

Additional Requirements

  • Prior to the date of appointment, this position requires a criminal background check conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).
