Job Summary

Primary job function for this position is cyber-security work related to Operational Technology environments in Transmission and Distribution Substations. Working to secure Protection and Control Systems; relays, RTUs, carrier sets, Ethernet Switches and serial servers, controllers, monitors, meters, etc.

Job Description

  • Implement/support cyber-security projects within substations.

  • Execute and track problems with device firmware patching.

  • Diagnose and track cyber-security incidents with substations.

  • Manage firewall ACL’s

  • Resolve vulnerabilities/firmware updates

  • Provide support/guidance or assist in providing support to interface groups.

  • Train others in all issue related to substation cyber security

  • Create automation/work with vendor on automation tools for inventory tracking and device management

  • Manage intermediate systems for remote access into substation environments

  • Support NERC CIP program for substation environment

  • Participate in CIP Audits

  • Manage passwords for substation devices

  • Manage CIP Baselines for substation environment

  • Support cyber monitoring.

  • Test representative device for approval prior to approval for standard

  • Support SCADA applications for reliability and security

  • Maintain reliable operations of the EMS, SCADA and P&C systems

  • Improve and make recommendations to improve the quality and reliability of OT cyber security and related services

  • Define and implement Human Performance Initiative rules and Key Performance Indicators around OT Cyber Security processes.

Min Requirements:

Security Specialist Senior: (Grade 7)

Education: Associate's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field or higher from an accredited college/university or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.

Experience: Three years related experience with associate's degree and Four years of experience with a high school diploma. Individuals with a bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

Security Specialist Prin:(Grade 8)

Education: Associate's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field or higher from an accredited college/university or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.

Experience: Four years related experience with associate's degree and Five years of experience with a high school diploma. Individuals with a bachelor's degree and 3 year of related experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

Other Requirements

  • Detailed knowledge desired in the following areas:

  • Substation P&C device protocol and function (e.g. SEL, GE, Siemens, Cooper)

  • Siemens Crossbow intermediate system

  • NERC CIP Standards

  • Microsoft Windows Systems

  • IP Network and Serial Communications Experience

  • Limited programming capability

  • Substation and Power Grid understanding

  • Real time system support experience

  • Good communications and documentation skills

Comp Range:

Security Spec Sr: (SG7): $83,413-$104,268

Security Spec Prin (SG8): $94,225- $122,491
