About the Unit/Department/Team The billing team at Lakewood is comprised of both remote and on-site staff who work to ensure the services rendered at Lakewood are billed to insurance and patients appropriately, both maintaining positive relationships between the community and Lakewood as well as capturing revenue to sustain the continued high-quality, personalized health care our patients enjoy. Mission for Position The Patient Account Representative performs all hospital billing duties for Lakewood Health System claims. Position Summary Complete billing tasks associated with appropriate insurance. Ensure that all data is correct when submitting a claim to the third party payor. Submit secondary claims to the second insurance after receiving EOB and/or payment from the primary insurance. Problem solve any issues with complex or problematic claims Implement correspondence between patients and their insurance carriers regarding required account information to keep claims paid in a timely manner. Review appropriate payments and posting from EOB's. Solve miscellaneous problems with insurance companies and coding issues as needed. Work billing work queues and keep them up to date. Complete adjustments and appeals including written and follow-up phone calls to insurance companies to keep claims paying and up-to-date. Investigate claims not being paid in a timely manner. Solve any issues and submit appropriate correspondence to correct problem accounts and receive payment. Be available to answer all customer service concerns and direct them to the appropriate person. Assist the patient with problems regarding filing of insurance claims. Refer any problems to supervisor. Assist a customer in reviewing all health insurance claims whether it be from the Lakewood Health System or another facility and assist where possible. Educate the customer regarding Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance regulations as they apply to the customer. Implement interdepartmental communication to successfully complete job tasks. Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of billing rules and regulations. Attend business and staff meetings, and educational billing and insurance seminars as required Position Type Full-time, hourly. This is primarily a remote work environment, with on-site presence required for pre-employment appointments. Qualifications Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Two years experience in billing or equivalent in claims processing preferred. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and all third party guidance preferred. Versed in customer service. Ideal Candidate Problem solves. Attends to multiple tasks, organizing, prioritizing and executing with ease. Ability to complete written work orders. Coordinates and interprets work data. Able to communicate effectively with patients, families, insurance professionals and co-workers. Able to concentrate and prioritize.
