Navy Federal Credit Union Credit & Counterparty Risk Analyst in Vienna, Virginia
Overview
To contribute to sound capital markets strategy by assisting with the management of Navy Federal's credit and counterparty risk. Conduct research, evaluation and analysis, and contribute to sound credit decisions for the organization. Monitor, evaluate and ensure the creditworthiness of our financial business partners, debt issuers, guarantors and obligors. Manage the credit analysis process to include complex quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
Responsibilities
Analyze reports and financial statements and assess the wholesale credit risk and viability of potential counterparties and banking partners
Perform due diligence research and analysis on existing counterparties and portfolio debt to include credit monitoring, ratings verification, earnings tracking and assessments
Conduct independent detailed research and analysis on counterparties, issuers/obligors and across investments to develop short and long term perspectives, fundamental credit opinions, and establish credit outlook
Conduct comparative fundamental analysis using current industry, geographic or market data (e.g., liquidity, profitability, and credit history)
Compute financial ratios and credit metrics and evaluates changes in the financial, economic, regulatory, legislative and competitive environment to determine impact on /issuers/obligors
Recommend changes to credit ratings and provides justification for analytical results and changes, develop and maintain historical and projected financial models
Perform structured finance credit risk analysis to include assessment of underlying loans and deal structures
Collaborate with Capital Markets team to develop tactical and strategic guidance on the portfolio's risk position while remaining within limits and capital constraints to include providing approval/denial for purchase of credit products
Manage collateral of all Navy Federal counterparties to include reconciling differences/disputes and managing margin calls
Maintain relationships with financial data houses/vendors to assess credit risk, develop models, and ensure accurate and efficient flow of reports
Produce credit risk and market risk reports to maintain a comprehensive understanding of risk positions, market conditions and monitor the relevant markets and portfolio activity
Serves as strategic advisor to senior management
Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and industry laws, regulations and guidelines
Maintain training documentation, historical files, internal procedures and assists with updating policies
Conduct research and analysis; make recommendations
Contribute to a culture of collaboration by actively working across business lines, communicating knowledge and business processes to other business units
Prepare ad hoc and required industry and regulatory reports including audit inquires in compliance with internal and external regulations
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of financial and credit markets, fundamental credit analysis, evaluating creditworthiness, and accounting principles
Experience in one or more of the following areas: credit/counterparty risk, financial/capital markets or risk management
Familiarity with factors driving performance of the industry
Experience demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative-taking, decision-making and creativity solving business problems
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Advanced skill analyzing statistics and reports to determine business performance and trends (JDS000000034)
Advanced research, analytical, and problem solving skills
Advanced skill working with diverse internal and external contacts
Effective skill presenting to stakeholders & management
Advanced database and presentation software skills
Advanced word processing and spreadsheet software skills

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, or the equivalent combination of experience, education and training
Desired Qualifications
Experience working in a capital markets environment preferably with fixed income instruments
Working knowledge of Bloomberg, Excel VBA, SAS programming and SQL
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
Bloomberg API or Intex modeling skills
Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or other related field
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
