JOB SUMMARY: In Washougal, WA, the Yarn Utility oversees processes in our Carding area to ensure high-quality output, maintain safety, and meet performance goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure proper operation of the carding machine by monitoring it regularly Repair any breaks in the roving that may occur during the manufacturing process Set up the carding machine to run different mixes of wool Clean and change mechanical components of the machine to ensure it runs smoothly Keep the work area and equipment clean to maintain a safe and efficient environment Cross-train in other areas of yarn manufacturing to adapt to changing needs SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Basic math skills Read and write legibly in English Attentive to the environment Seek for opportunities to improve personal understanding and capabilities Work independently and as a team Look for ways to improve safety and quality in all areas of the manufacturing process PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Stand, walk, twist, and crouch as needed during the entire shift (breaks and meals excluded). Lift up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 pounds occasionally. Employees are never expected to lift any loads if doing so is unsafe or too high a risk. Push and pull wheeled carts containing products weighing up to 200 pounds short distances. Ability to safely use a hand truck to move bales of wool up to 450 pounds. Frequently step and reach upwards to access all components of equipment. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. Two or more years of production experience preferred. Any combinations of education and experience that can demonstrate the ability to perform the job are acceptable. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Humid work environment Exposure to wool fibers and dust Loud work environment; hearing protection is required in certain areas of yarn manufacturing Safety-toe shoes with steel, alloy, or composite toe are mandatory We provide a reimbursement program Close proximity to machinery, frequent contact with grease and oil BENEFITS Eight (8)-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, with occasional overtime on Saturday.
