COLLEGE COACH Summer Internship: Pathology Admin Intern

The opportunity 

The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 9-Friday, August 8, 2025. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week. 

The Intern will spend split time attending lectures, assisting in our Histology, Cytology, and Molecular laboratories. Some administrative tasks such as material filing and organization will take place. We prepare surgical material into glass slides and paraffin wax blocks that after clinical review get organized and saved. 

What you’ll do 

  • Pathology is the precise study and diagnosis of disease. Our interns will participate in staff's daily workflow, which consist of all areas of Pathology. 

  • Anatomic pathology which is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the gross, microscopic, chemical, immunologic and molecular examination of organs, tissues, and whole bodies (autopsy).  

  • Surgical pathology is the most significant and time-consuming area of practice for most anatomical pathologists. It involves the gross and microscopic examination of surgical specimens, as well as biopsies submitted by surgeons and non-surgeons 

  • Interns will have the opportunity to observe in Autopsy (clinical) and Forensic (medico-legal) pathology which is concerned with determining the cause of death by examination of a cadaver involving an extensive gross and microscopic examination (NO interns will physically participate in an autopsy - observation only). 

  • Interns will be exposed to the administrative side of pathology operations, tying the entire experience together. 

  • This position is fully onsite 

What you’ll get 

  • By the end of the Internship, the intern will have gained the knowledge and basic understanding of pediatric anatomic pathology. 

  •  The intern will attend multiple lectures and conferences and have ample opportunity for hands on experience in our surgical and histological specimen processing areas.  

  • We encourage each intern (if they're comfortable) towards the end of their internship to present some of the knowledge they acquired to our technical and administrative staff in a small roundtable. 

Who you are 

  • You are an undergraduate college student interested working in healthcare 

  • Interns should have credits in college science courses. 

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Internship opportunities: We aim to have all summer internship opportunities posted by February 28. They will be posted on a rolling basis as managers determine their availability to host an intern.  

  • Resume review & interviews: Applications will be screened, forwarded to managers as appropriate, and interviews will be scheduled. 

  • Offer decision: We will follow up within one week of your interview.  

  • Onboarding: Those selected for the internship program will complete onboarding by May to ensure a smooth start to the program.
