The Chief Technologist is responsible for the following:
- Plans, organizes and oversees daily operations for area of responsibility.
- Prioritizes and schedules patients and works with other supervisors to coordinate patient flow throughout department and arrange staff work schedules.
- Monitors work flow/volume, assigning personnel and allocating resources as needed to meet patient care requirements.
- Monitors and maintains imaging quality and oversees collection and analysis of required quality improvement data.
- Monitors and maintains inventory for area of responsibility, initiating reorder of items as needed.
- Recommends equipment purchases and investigates new products through vendors and other institutions.
- Trains, supervises and evaluates employees within area of responsibility.
- Participates in selection of new employees.
- Monitors performance, provides guidance and feedback and initiates disciplinary actions as warranted.
- Provides training and instruction to new staff and prepares and conducts annual performance evaluations.
- Performs duties and responsibilities of a technologist within assigned area.
- Develops, monitors and maintains protocols for performing imaging examinations within area of responsibility.
- Identifies and reports area's needs, issues and problems to Technical Director on an ongoing basis.
- Reports equipment malfunctions to engineering personnel and/or vendor and conducts follow up to ensure requested services are completed.
- Works with engineering staff to arrange required preventive maintenance and other related scheduled services.
- Adjusts patient schedules and develops and implements procedures for out of service equipment, including arrangements for emergency imaging.
- Maintains professional skills and knowledge through participation in professional organizations, attendance at conferences, seminars and other continuing education programs.
- Prepares and conducts in-services programs and arranges lectures and other programs to meet learning needs of department personnel.
- Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registration ARRT certification or Current registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist ARRT N or CNMT
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Current Massachusetts license as a Radiologic Technologist
- Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology depending upon the assigned imaging area.
- Six years’ prior experience is required.
